EN+ Load Balancing & Solar PV Integration

Use the Power You Have. Protect the Power You Need.

EN+ intelligent energy management brings EV charging, Dynamic Load Balancing and Solar PV together in one smart charging solution.

At home, your EV charger can automatically respond to the electricity being used elsewhere in the property while also making use of power generated by your solar PV system.

For commercial installations, intelligent load management allows available electrical capacity to be distributed across multiple EV chargers without simply assuming every charger will operate at maximum power simultaneously.

Smarter charging. Better use of available power. More value from your Solar PV.

Domestic Load Balancing & Solar PV Charging

Your EV could be one of the biggest electrical loads in your home. Make it work intelligently with everything else.

A 7kW home EV charger can draw up to 32A - a significant load on a standard domestic electrical supply, especially when other appliances are running at the same time.

EN+ Dynamic Load Balancing monitors your home's total electricity usage in real time and automatically adjusts EV charging current, protecting your main fuse from overload and avoiding nuisance trips.

Instead of treating the charger as an isolated appliance, EN+ treats your whole home as one system - balancing EV charging with everyday electricity use, and with solar PV generation where available.

Your House Gets Priority

Your car charges with the power that's available.

Think of the electrical supply to your house as having a maximum capacity. When household electricity demand increases, charging power can be reduced; when demand elsewhere falls, more capacity becomes available for EV charging.

The Evchargo App allows your installer to configure the load limitation against either the property's contracted power or the fuse current.

No need to choose between charging your car and using your home.

Got Solar? Put It in Your Car.

Make better use of the electricity your home is already generating.

Solar PV can produce electricity during the day when household demand may be relatively low. Instead of automatically exporting that available energy, a compatible EN+ charging system can use PV-generated power for EV charging.

The EN+ system monitors the power available from the PV installation and allows you to choose how you want the vehicle to charge.

Solar Panels → Your Home → Your EN+ Charger → Your EV

Choose How You Want to Charge

Decide how your solar and grid electricity are used.

Eco Mode — Prioritise Solar: use available PV energy for EV charging. Best for customers who want to maximise the use of their own solar generation.

Mix Mode — Solar First, Grid When Needed: uses available PV generation and supplements it with electricity from the grid when required, for a more flexible charging experience.

General Mode — Charge When You Need It:

normal grid-supported charging subject to the available power and configured settings, when getting the vehicle charged is the priority.

Control It From the Evchargo App

Solar charging doesn't need to be complicated.

The Evchargo App brings charging control, PV integration and energy management together.

Depending on the compatible hardware and installation, users can monitor charging in real time, schedule charging and manage charging behaviour, while PV and load-balancing functions are configured through the same ecosystem.

For PV charging, the App supports configurations using a CT, smart meter or combinations of meters and CTs, depending on whether the installation is single-phase or three-phase.

Make More of Your Solar Investment

An EV creates a new opportunity to use electricity generated by your solar panels.

Instead of thinking about your PV system and EV charger as two completely separate installations, EN+ allows them to work together.

That means the car can become another intelligent destination for the energy produced by your home.

Generate: your PV panels produce electricity.

Monitor: the system measures household consumption and available PV generation. Prioritise: your chosen charging mode determines how that available energy should be used.

Charge: available power is directed to the EV according to the selected settings.

Dynamic Load Balancing + Solar PV

Two smart functions. One energy management solution.

These features complement each other but do different jobs.

Dynamic Load Balancing protects the available electrical capacity of the property by responding to changing household demand. PV Integration allows the charger to respond to electricity being generated by the home's solar system.

Together they allow the charger to make intelligent decisions about how much power is available and where that power should come from.

Single-Phase & Three-Phase Solutions

The Evchargo system isn't restricted to one type of electrical installation. Separate load-balancing and PV configurations are available for Single-Phase (CT, or Smart meter + CT) and Three-Phase (Smart meter, or Smart meter + three CTs) installations.

The precise equipment and configuration depend on the charger, electrical installation and required functionality.

CT installation, smart-meter integration, load-balancing set-up and PV configuration are carried out by a qualified installer.

Domestic Load Balancing & Solar FAQs

What is EV charger load balancing? Dynamic load balancing monitors the electrical demand of the property and adjusts the EV charger's power so charging operates within the configured electrical capacity. As demand elsewhere in the home rises or falls, the amount available to the charger can change accordingly.

Why would I need load balancing at home? An EV charger can be a significant additional electrical load. Homes with equipment such as electric showers, heat pumps and other high-demand appliances may particularly benefit from intelligent management of the available supply. IA Charger recommends its load-balancing CARO configuration for this type of situation.

Can I charge my EV using my solar panels? Yes, with a compatible EN+ charger and correctly configured PV monitoring equipment. The system supports PV charging and can be configured to make use of available solar generation.

Can I use solar and grid electricity together? Yes. Mix Mode is designed to use available PV energy while supplementing it from the grid when necessary.

Can I choose to prioritise solar power? Yes. The EN+ system includes an Eco/PV charging mode intended to maximise the use of available PV-generated electricity for EV charging.

Can I still schedule charging at night? Yes. The Evchargo App supports off-peak and scheduled charging, allowing charging sessions to automatically start and stop at configured times.

Smart Energy Management Isn't Just for Homes

The same principle can manage an entire commercial EV charging installation.

At home, load balancing manages the relationship between one EV charger and household demand.

At a commercial site, EN+ Dynamic Load Management can manage the relationship between multiple EV chargers, the building and the available electrical supply.

Commercial Load Balancing & PV Integration

More Chargers. Smarter Use of Available Power.

Installing multiple EV chargers can add significant electrical demand to a commercial property. But that doesn't mean every charger needs to operate at maximum power at the same time.

EN+ Dynamic Load Management uses a Load Balance Controller (LBC) to monitor the electrical capacity available for EV charging and intelligently manage the power supplied to connected chargers.

As demand elsewhere on the site changes, the capacity available for EV charging can change with it.

Building + EV Chargers + Solar PV — Managed as One Energy System

Your Building Gets the Power It Needs. Your Chargers Share What's Available.

A commercial building already has many competing electrical loads: heating, cooling, lighting, machinery, kitchens, IT, production equipment and EV charging.

Rather than allowing EV chargers to operate without regard to those other loads, Dynamic Load Management monitors the site's available capacity.

Monitor: the system monitors electrical demand at the site.

Calculate: the LBC determines the capacity currently available for EV charging.

Distribute: available charging power is allocated across the connected chargers.

Adjust: as building demand changes, the amount available for EV charging can change accordingly.

10 Chargers Doesn't Have to Mean 10 Chargers at Full Power

Consider a business installing ten commercial EV chargers.

Designing on the assumption that every charger will continuously require maximum output can place a substantial additional demand on the site's electrical infrastructure.

Dynamic Load Management takes a different approach. It considers the power actually available for EV charging at that moment and manages charging within the configured site limits.

High Building Demand: less capacity available, so EV charging is managed accordingly.

Lower Building Demand: more capacity becomes available, so more can be allocated to EV charging.

The objective: make intelligent use of the electrical capacity you already have.

Choose How Available Power Is Shared

The LBC provides two different strategies depending on how the chargers need to operate.

Average Power Distribution (APD) — Share the Available Power: when multiple vehicles are charging, available charging capacity is distributed across the active chargers. Best where you want multiple connected vehicles charging together — ideal for workplaces, apartments, hotels, long-stay car parks and overnight fleets.

Full-Load Priority (FLP) — Prioritise the Vehicles That Need the Power: when available current is limited, charging is prioritised on a first-come, first-served basis. The first EV to begin charging can receive the available power while subsequent chargers may receive reduced current or wait until capacity becomes available. As capacity becomes available, it can then be used by the other connected chargers. Useful where charging priority is more important than equal power sharing.

Example: a 200kW total distribution capacity shared between ten chargers and 50kW of other building demand.

The EN+ Load Balance Controller

Intelligent Power Management at the Centre of the Installation

The LBC sits at the heart of a multi-charger load-management system. During configuration, the system can be set according to the site's Single or Three-Phase Supply, Fuse Current, Contracted Power, Selected Chargers and Load Management Strategy.

Site Supply → LBC → Charger 1, Charger 2, Charger 3, Charger 4, Charger 5

Configuration and commissioning of the LBC, meters and CTs are carried out by a qualified installer.

Build for Today.
Expand for Tomorrow.

Start with the chargers you need now. Then grow the installation as EV demand increases.

One of the big commercial advantages of intelligent load management is that the charging infrastructure can be planned around the site as a whole, rather than looking at each charger independently.

4 Chargers → 8 Chargers → 20+ Chargers

...as more employees, residents, customers or fleet vehicles move to EVs. The site's available charging capacity can then be managed across the connected chargers through the EN+ load-management system.

More charge points doesn't automatically have to mean more peak demand.

Already Generating Solar Power? Put It to Work.

Your EV chargers can become another destination for the electricity your business generates.

Many commercial properties now have significant rooftop Solar PV installations.

EN+ combines PV-compatible charging with intelligent load management, allowing EV charging to form part of the site's wider energy strategy.

Instead of looking at Building, Solar PV and EV Chargers independently, they can be considered together:

PV + Grid → Site Load → LBC → EV Charging.

Generate. Use. Charge.

Solar PV often produces electricity during daylight hours — exactly when many commercial vehicles, employees' cars or customer vehicles may be parked on site.

That creates an opportunity to use more of the electricity generated on the property for EV charging.

Generate: your Solar PV system produces electricity.

Monitor: the system monitors site demand and available power.

Manage: load management determines the capacity available for charging. Charge: available energy can be used to charge connected EVs.

Turn Your Car Park into Part of Your Energy Strategy.

Solar PV and Load Balancing Work Better Together

They perform two related but different jobs.

PV Integration helps the charging system make use of electricity generated by the site's solar installation.

Dynamic Load Balancing controls how much electrical capacity can be allocated to EV charging without ignoring other site demand.

The LBC manages the distribution of available charging capacity across multiple connected chargers.

Grid + Solar + Building + EV Chargers — working as an intelligent energy-management system.

Your Building's Demand Doesn't Stay the Same All Day.

Neither should your EV charging.

Imagine a workplace with 20 EV charging spaces.

At 9:00am, staff arrive and plug in.

During the working day, the building's heating, cooling, machinery, kitchens, IT systems and other equipment are also consuming electricity. At the same time, rooftop Solar PV may be generating electricity.

Rather than treating the 20 chargers as an isolated fixed load, Dynamic Load Management allows the power available for EV charging to respond to the site's changing electrical conditions.

Building demand increases → charging capacity can be reduced.

Building demand falls → more capacity can become available for EV charging.

Solar generation contributes → more of your own generated energy can be put to use.

More vehicles connect → available charging capacity can be distributed according to the selected strategy.

One Energy Management Principle. Multiple Applications.

Workplaces: manage employee, visitor and company vehicle charging alongside building demand.

Apartments: distribute available capacity across growing numbers of resident chargers.

Hotels & Hospitality: manage overnight guest charging alongside kitchens, heating, cooling and other building loads.

Fleets: manage multiple vehicles and choose how available charging power is prioritised.

Destination Charging: support customer charging without treating EV infrastructure as an unlimited electrical load.

Commercial Car Parks: scale charging infrastructure while intelligently managing the site's available power.

Why Use Intelligent Load Management?

Maximise Available Power: make intelligent use of existing site capacity.

Manage Multiple Chargers: control charging across a multi-charger installation.

Choose Your Strategy: Average Power Distribution or Full-Load Priority.

Integrate Solar PV: put more of your own generation to work.

Scale Your Network: add charging infrastructure as demand grows.

Remote Management: use the EN+ / Evchargo ecosystem to manage connected charging infrastructure.

How does commercial EV charger load balancing work? EN+ Dynamic Load Management monitors the site's available electrical capacity and adjusts the power allocated to EV charging. For multi-charger installations, the LBC manages the connected chargers according to the configured limits and selected control strategy.

What is Average Power Distribution (APD)? APD shares the available charging current across active chargers. In the Evchargo App this is described as Average control, where active chargers share available current equally.

FAQs

What is Full-Load Priority (FLP)? Full-Load Priority prioritises charging when available capacity is limited. It works on a first-come, first-served basis: the first vehicle to begin charging receives priority, while subsequent chargers can receive reduced current or wait.

Can load balancing manage three-phase installations? Yes. The EN+ LBC configuration supports both single-phase and three-phase power systems, with configuration for fuse current and contracted power.

Can commercial EN+ chargers work with Solar PV? Compatible EN+ commercial chargers support PV integration. This can allow available solar generation to contribute to EV charging as part of the site's energy-management strategy.

Who configures the Load Balance Controller? CT installation, smart-meter integration, load-balancing setup, PV configuration and LBC binding/configuration are tasks for a qualified electrician or installer.

Can I add more chargers later? EN+ multi-charger load management is specifically designed around groups of charge points. The number and type that can be added to a particular installation still needs to be determined from the electrical design, available capacity and compatible hardware rather than assuming an unlimited number of chargers.
