Frequently Asked Questions
What size home EV charger do I need? For most Irish homes with a single-phase electrical supply, a 7kW charger such as CARO Plus is the normal EN+ home charging option. Higher-power AC charging requires a suitable electrical supply and a vehicle capable of accepting the higher AC charging rate.
Can I use my solar panels to charge my EV? Yes. With the compatible EN+ charger and correctly configured installation, PV integration allows solar-generated electricity to contribute to EV charging.
Can I charge without using an App? Yes. Compatible EN+ chargers can support alternatives including Plug & Charge and RFID activation, so you don't need to open the App every time you charge.
What's the difference between CARO Plus and CARO Plus with the Load Balancing kit? CARO Plus with the Load Balancing kit adds the equipment required for Dynamic Load Balancing and Solar PV integration, including the CT sensor kit.
Do I need Load Balancing? It depends on the electrical supply and loads in the property. It is particularly relevant where EV charging is being added alongside high-demand equipment such as an electric shower or heat pump.
Can I schedule my EV to charge overnight? Yes. The Evchargo App supports scheduled charging, allowing you to choose when charging takes place.
Can other people use my charger? Yes. The Evchargo functionality allows the charger to be shared with authorised users, while providing visibility of charging usage.
Can I see how much electricity my EV has used? The Evchargo App provides charging records and monitoring, which can also be useful where home charging needs to be recorded for work expenses.
